Dachshund    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Submissive
Health: Neutered

Patches is a 6 year old mini-Daschund. Patch is very shy when meeting new people or dogs. When he warms up though, he wants to stay close. His favorite pass time is sitting on his person's lap and napping. He would do best in a home without small children - they move too quickly for him. Patches is not fond of car rides or exploring the back yard, but he'll go out if you go with him :) Patches needs someone home at least part of the day to let him outside and keep him company. His former owner pee pad trained him, but he is best getting outside to do his business. Patches would love a family to call his own, and has been patiently ... (Read More)waiting. (Less)

Mr. Puggles is an 8 year old Pug and Beagle cross. Mr. Puggles' owner unfortunately suffered from dementia and went into assisted living. Mr. Puggles and his friend Toby remained in their owner's house for several months all by themselves. They were taken care of by a pet sitter while people tried to find new homes for them.     Angie is a super friendly girl, and loves everyone. She is good with the dogs in her foster home, and the kitties too! Angie came into her first rescue pregnant and heartworm positive. After nursing nine puppies, and being the special girl Angie is, heartworm treatment was done. Angie came to HELP for cage rest and is now done with her medical hold. Animal ID: 2967Phantom (male)

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi ! My name is Phantom and I am a real sweetheart! I love to be with my foster family and offer love to all! I need a mate who will be committed to keeping my mind and body well exercised on a daily basis! I would love a mate who would want to take me to agility classes as I think I would do great at it! I am doing stellar with learning my manners. I learn very quickly when my foster mom and dad teach me manners. With additional training I will be a great off leash dog! Small children and fast moving bikes scare me so I cannot be in a home with children under 8 years old. I would love a fenced yard so I can run and learn fetch. And ... (Read More)another dog to play with would be great!! If you have any livestock or squirrels that need herding, I'm your boy! I am 100% house trained, 100% crate trained and proud of it!!! I am just looking for a mate(s) that will love me and work with me so I can be the best dog I can be! Here is what one human had to say about me and I quote 'So smart and quick to learn and eager to please. So fun and rewarding to train'. Hoping for a forever family who I can love and who will love me back! Phantom is an Australian cattle dog mix, about 1 year old male, neutered on 4/28/16 and UTD on vaccines. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-03-11-00563Callie (female)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Not Good with Cats
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

My name is Callie. I am a pit bull mix and my age is somewhere between 5-7 years old. I have had a very rough life so far. I was dumped at animal control by an anonymous person and was pregnant with 6 puppies. I have had many litters in my life. I was such a great mommy! Thankfully HELP rescued me and my last litter from being euthanized because of my breed. Now, all of my puppies have found their forever homes and it's my turn. I have been spayed and am up to date on all my shots. I was used and abused by human hands. Left with multiple scars over my body, if only I could tell you what I've seen. I came from an abusive home and get scared ... (Read More)when people get mad around me. I use to lower my head when approached to be petted. Sometimes I get a little anxious when I'm left alone for long periods of time. When my foster mom saved me, I was 15 pounds underweight, and because I had to fend for my food and territory I do not like other dogs or animals in my house. But don't worry I wouldn't hurt you around my toys or food. I just want your love. If I could be your one and only baby I would be perfect for you. I love to go on walks and roll around in the grass. I am good on the leash too! I know basic commands like sit and down, and I ask to go potty by scratching at the door. My favorite thing in the entire world is to be cuddled! I carry around a stuffed animal and keep it with me at all times. If you are willing to give me a chance I will show you my gentle spirit. Since being in foster care I have learned what life is truly about. I have learned that hands mean belly rubs and treats, not hitting. I have learned that new people in my house are there to greet me, not hurt me. My foster mommy tells me every day that I am special. I have spent the first half of my life not knowing when my next meal is coming. Will you start the second chapter as my forever home? A special home for a special dog! Callie should be the only pet in the house and never around other dogs. Callie does well around older children, and loves sleeping in the bed at night. She gets anxious in confined spaces such as kennels. Callie would do best in a home with knowledge in dog behavior that can continue to enrich the life of a once broken spirited dog. She has come a long way since rescued from animal control but her story shouldn't end here. (Less)

My name is Lilly and I'm a beautiful 3 year old calico kitty. I'm a sweet, affectionate and very mellow kitty who loves sitting in laps and being petted. I was a bottle-fed kitty so I love being around people and am very quick to purr. I also love getting belly rubs, laying in the sun, and watching birds through the window. Did I mention that I really love belly rubs? I am looking for a very special owner who has a big heart and who can love me even though I'm not perfect.     Hey! My name is Skittles! I would love to meet you-I'm very affectionate and love to play with my toys. I'm a gray tortoise shell cat with quite a bit of rosy red color in my collar area. I'm about 2 years old and I have been spayed and microchipped. I do still have my claws but I have been very respectful of furniture and the like. I am currently being fostered with another cat and he's a bit of a bully to me. I'm hoping to be paired with another mild-mannered cat or as a solitary feline. Domestic Cat    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Paddington was given to me at just one week old. All 4 were sturdy and healthy, but just didn't have a mom. I bottle fed them, and then introduced them to a lactating female named Sunny. Sunny immediately accepted them as her own, even though she had 4 biological babies the same age already. I rotated them so everyone could get their share of the groceries and loving comfort from mom. Sunny had 8 babies! Well, fast forward to December 2014Č'Ř|. Her needs are simpleČ'Ř|..she would love a quiet home with gentle children over 4, possibly a mellow cat or two, (or his mom or sister) a sunny window, and she is in heaven. (Less)

Missy is my name, sitting in the sunshine is my game. I am always looking for someplace warm to curl up! I have a beautiful soft coat of white and grey fur, and a wonderful purr motor. I've spent most of my young adult life as a stray (I came to H.E.L.P. as a pregnant girl), but now I love the indoor life! I prefer to be an only cat and I get along with mellow dogs.     Athena is a brown/black tiger/tabby. She came to HELP from the streets of Chicago. While I am sitting on the couch, she will come over and put her front paws on my legs, waiting for me to let her know she can jump on my lap. She will immediately rest her head and wait for her head/ears to be scratched. She keeps herself amused and likes people. She rarely interacts with the other kitties. She was initially thought to have a cleft palate, but it turned out to be an Indolent Ulcer (rodent ulcer or eosinophilic ulcer more commonly known by) which is an ulcerative skin problem that is usually associated with an underlying hypersensitivity, most ... It can become disfiguring, but it is not painful or pruritic. Managed by controlling allergies (diet), sometimes systemic antihistamines may reduce clinical symptoms, and sometimes steriods are needed to induce remission. Cats that have underlying allergies that are managed successfully have an excellent prognosis. She has had a couple of flare ups, but is not on continuous medicine. (I have used atopica to clear up the initial outbreak and one cycle since then). Also, early in the year, I thought she had a uti, but it was just inflammation (caused by stress?). The doctor said to give her cosequin for the inflammation. She has not had a reoccurance. (Less)

BonBon is a 30 pound Italian greyhound/terrier mix who is approximately 6-8 years old. BonBon ended up at Chicago Animal Care and Control after he was attacked by another dog and his family could not afford his treatment. HELP rescued him from CACC and got him the treatment he needed for his injuries (which thankfully were not serious) and he has healed completely. The vet guessed BonBon's age at 6-8 years although he acts much younger. He is housetrained, does not chew, and sleeps quietly through the night on a dog bed in our bedroom. He gets along well with our medium size dogs. He enjoys running around the yard, playing with dog toys ... (Read More)and curling up on a fuzzy blanket for naps. He loves going for walks and is also going out for runs with me and my two dogs. He does very well and certainly has the energy and stamina for it, running as far as 10 miles. BonBon has very short hair and is not a fan of cold weather. So in addition to fuzzy blankets, BonBon likes to wear sweaters when it is cold and has a couple of coats for outdoors. BonBon was diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease, which improved when he started taking steroids. He currently takes a half pill every other day (the cost for 100 pills is $26 at Walgreens) and also takes pro biotics once a day. He is also currently eating a prescription dog food that we obtain from the vet. He should be able to be weaned off of that food once he has settled in to his permanent home. Before starting the steroids, BonBon spent most of his days curled up sleeping, often not even wanting to get out of bed. Now BonBon is active and playful, always happy to receive attention, wagging his tail and talking to us. It's obvious that he is a happy dog now that he is feeling so much better. While we hope that BonBon's IBD will remain in control with the steroids and pro biotics, he may always have bouts of diarrhea. As a result, he would be best with someone who is home most of the day or can let him out every 4 hours during the day. BonBon's history left him wary and a little fearful of other dogs. He is nervous when meeting new dogs but once he realizes the dogs are not aggressive, he gets along fine with them. He is a very well behaved dog and is eager to please. BonBon is neutered, micro chipped, and up to date on all of his vaccinations. He is ready to find his own family to love. He has quite a few good years left in him and he is hoping to find someone willing to give an older guy a chance. He is definitely worth it! So if you have room in your heart and a warm spot in your house for BonBon, please come meet him. (Less)
